week 7: egg coasters with a twist

Image
I was so incredibly pleased with how my final design for my egg coasters came out. I spent so much time prepping the files properly for cutting, and making sure they read as the pysanky coasters of my dreams. once fully hatched, this is how the plan looked. however, when it came to cutting the pieces and booking an appointment, I ran into a little bit of a roadblock...  said roadblock being moving. I was given four days notice before I got my keys, and only had 24 hours to move everything out. said 24 hours starting at 4 PM on Tuesday, which is so conveniently the day before our class. because of this, i was unable to get my coasters cut before the class. my bad divas.

week 5: the egg coaster

Growing up, my grandparents had a glass vase full of Pysanky eggs; a type of Ukrainian easter egg made with delicate wax lines and dip dying.  this is the aforementioned vase. when it came to making coasters, I wanted to make something that incorporated my heritage, while also being an interesting coaster. And thus, the pysanky coaster was born. the coasters will be a set of 6, with 3 different sizes. Each smaller piece will fit within its respective larger piece, and the two largest pieces will snap together. This idea came from the matryoshka doll; while it is Russian in origin, these meticulous stacking dolls were all over my house growing up.\
